Anne was adopted as a baby and raised by a farming couple in rural Nebraska. Growing up, she was told that she was of European descent with some Indigenous American ancestry. But Anne always had questions about where she came from and what made her unique.
At 26, Anne contacted Catholic Social Services—the organization her adoptive parents had used for her adoption—and began the search for her birth parents.
What she discovered would change the way she understood her identity forever.
In this episode of Found with Trish and Sherri, Anne shares her journey as an adoptee, discovering her racial identity, searching for her birth parents, navigating the complicated emotions surrounding what her adoptive parents knew, and finding connection with the family she had spent so many years wondering about.
This is a story about adoption, identity, ancestry, family secrets, birth parents, racial identity, reunion, and discovering who you really are.
If you are an adoptee, birth parent, adoptive parent, or someone searching for biological family, Anne’s story may resonate with you.
If you have a story about adoption, DNA discovery, finding your birth family, reunion, or discovering something unexpected about your identity, we would love to hear from you.
